Why Trust This Easy Hikes in Kelowna Guide?
- I’m a Local: I’ve lived in Kelowna for 4 years and know these trails like the back of my hand.
- Experience over Intensity: I prefer laid-back, scenic strolls to tough climbs. These are my go-to easy hikes in Kelowna, many of which I’ve done multiple times.
- Best Seasons to Hike: Spring and fall are absolutely my favorite times to hike here. The weather is cool, the trails are quieter and the foliage is stunning.
So, let’s dive into the most rewarding and easy hikes in Kelowna that will leave you refreshed and smiling.
1. Knox Mountain Park (Paul’s Tomb Trail)
If you can only do one hike in Kelowna, make it this one. The Paul’s Tomb Trail is my absolute favorite, especially in the early spring when the wildflowers begin to bloom. It hugs the side of Knox Mountain, offering sweeping views of Okanagan Lake and the city below.
- Length: ~5 km roundtrip
- Time: 1.5 hours
- Why I Love It: Shady sections, lake views, and a quiet pebble beach at the end. I often bring a picnic and spend time by the water.
Local Tip: After your hike, drive up to the Knox Mountain summit for panoramic views without the sweat. The views over Okanagan Lake at sunset are absolutely stunning!
2. Mission Creek Greenway
This one is a flat, well-maintained gravel path that snakes along the serene Mission Creek. I come here often when I want to clear my head. It’s especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves turn golden.
- Length: Up to 16 km one-way (choose your distance)
- Time: Flexible
- Why I Love It: Gentle, peaceful, family and dog friendly. Lots of benches along the way.
Local Tip: Pair this with lunch at a nearby winery restaurant, check out our Kelowna winery dining guide.
3. Bear Creek Provincial Park
Located across the bridge in West Kelowna, this is one of the most scenic easy hikes in Kelowna that includes waterfalls, canyon views, and pine-scented forest.
- Length: ~2.5 km loop
- Time: 1 hour
- Why I Love It: You get so much beauty in such a short walk. I’ve taken my parents here multiple times. This is a very fun and easy hike suitable for all.
Local Tip: While you’re in West Kelowna, treat yourself to a post-hike glass of wine using our West Kelowna Wine Trail Guide.
4. Crawford Falls (aka Canyon Falls Park)
A slightly more adventurous option, but still doable if you take it slow. The short hike to the upper falls is not super strenuous and very rewarding. The lower falls require a steep descent and rope assistance, which I skip.
- Length: ~1.2 km to upper falls
- Time: 45 minutes round trip
- Why I Love It: The sound of rushing water and shaded trail make it a lovely mini adventure.
Local Tip: Bring proper shoes, as it can be slippery even in summer.
5. Scenic Canyon Regional Park (Layer Cake Mountain Viewpoint)
This underrated trail feels like a hidden gem. The layered rock formations of Layer Cake Mountain are something you wouldn’t expect to find just a few minutes from the city.
- Length: ~3 km loop
- Time: 1 hour
- Why I Love It: The first time I stumbled upon this trail, I couldn’t believe how close it was to the city and yet how few people were on it. That’s part of its charm. It feels like your own private escape into nature!
6. Kalamoir Regional Park
Another West Kelowna gem with peaceful lakeside trails and boardwalks. The elevation is minimal and you get fantastic views of the lake, especially at sunset.
- Length: 2–5 km (various loops)
- Time: 1–2 hours
- Why I Love It: Perfect for an after-dinner walk with a thermos of tea. It’s also dog-friendly and we always take my sister’s goldens when they visit us which makes it a hit with our furry companion who loves it even more than I do!
7. Myra Canyon Trestles (First Few Bridges)
The full 12-km route can be long, but even walking the first few trestles offers a scenic and easy hiking experience. This is one I always take visitors to and they’re wowed every single time.
- Length: ~3 km (out-and-back)
- Time: 1.5 hours
- Why I Love It: There’s something truly magical about walking across the old wooden trestles suspended above a canyon with sweeping views all around. The history behind the trail originally built as part of the Kettle Valley Railway, adds a sense of wonder and when I take every out-of-town visitor here, they’re blown away every single time
Local Tip: Park at the Myra Station entrance, as it gives you quicker access to the most scenic trestles and canyon views without needing to walk the full trail.
When to Hike in Kelowna
I strongly recommend spring (April to mid June) and fall (September to October) as the best seasons for easy hikes in Kelowna. After living here for four years, I’ve come to appreciate just how much the time of year can change your hiking experience.
In spring, the air is crisp, wildflowers are blooming along the trails and the creeks are full and flowing from snowmelt. It’s the perfect time to enjoy places like Paul’s Tomb or Scenic Canyon, where the landscapes feel alive and fresh. Plus, the city isn’t crowded with summer tourists yet, so the trails feel more peaceful and personal.nFall is my personal favorite. The Okanagan Valley puts on a show with golden trees, colorful vineyards, and quieter trailheads. The weather is still mild, ideal for afternoon strolls without breaking a sweat and the sunsets feel extra magical.
Avoid the peak of summer (July and August) for hiking unless you go very early in the morning. Temperatures often soar above 30°C (86°F) and even short hikes can feel draining. If you’re here in summer, I’d recommend sticking to shaded trails like Mission Creek Greenway or heading to a beach afterward to cool off.

Local Tips for Easy Hiking in Kelowna
- Pack Water: Even short hikes can be dehydrating, especially in Okanagan heat.
- Wear Layers: Spring mornings can be chilly, but the sun warms up fast.
- Download Trail Maps: Cell reception can be spotty. Apps like AllTrails work well offline. You can use AllTrails to map your trail route.
- Pair with Wine: This is Kelowna after all. Plan a day with an easy hike in the morning and a wine tasting in the afternoon.
- Start Early or Late: Especially in summer, hiking before 9 AM or after 6 PM helps you avoid both heat and crowds.
- Watch for Wildlife: It’s not uncommon to see deer on the trails, and occasionally even bears, especially in spring and fall. Carry bear spray if you’re hiking more remote areas like Myra Canyon or Crawford Falls.
Bonus Tip: If you’re up for a scenic drive, the Naramata Bench makes for a perfect day trip from Kelowna. It’s one of our favorite wine regions in the Okanagan, laid-back, intimate, and full of charming, family-run vineyards.
